Shaka Zulu’s modified fighting spear scaled down from the original ‘Assegai’ spear, was carried by Zulu’s beginning in the early 1800s. As with attacks against competing Tribes, and at Isandlawana and Rorkes Drift, the Zulu’s attacked British columns with the Assegai for throwing, and the IKLWA for hand fighting up close which was a formidable match for the man wielding the Martini Henry with bayonet. These Spears, (approx. 50" long), are made of hardwood handles of about 27" and a brass wire wrapped spear head in high carbon tempered steel. An excellent self-defense weapon for the home front!
