French Foreign Legionnaires were adept at obtaining personal fighting items since the Legion's budget was notoriously meager keeping them at the tail end of the defense logistics train. During the 1950s & 60s, it was common for the men to spend money on their own fighting knife since supply rarely had the items they wanted although occasionally, the Sykes style knives were made available.
This knife with brass handle became a common 'private purchase' item in the Indochina and Algeria wars. Sleek & packed with heft, more so than the slender 'Sykes' style knife, this elegant fighting knife became quite popular. Our newly manufactured knife is probably superior in the quality of steel used since we have applied it with 8Cr14MoV steel and have had an Indochina period leather scabbard made to accompany it. Carefully honed edges make this a truly formidable fighting knife.
