Besides a horned helmet and a flagon of mead, nothing bespeaks the image of a Norseman better than a Viking axe. The classical portrayal of a Viking battle axe is a bearded pattern, with a long bit, or “skeg” that extends down the bottom portion of the bit. This feature extended the cutting edge and resulted in an axe that was much more versatile; the truth is that though they might be called “battle axes” these patterns were really workhorses that saw duty outside of raids and pillaging, on farms, hamlets, and in the fields and woods. SARCO, Inc., carries a variety of axes reminiscent of Viking age patterns. Check out our catalog here and find something for your collection today!
