Egypt's adoption of the FN49 Rifle led to a trial of several bayonets including the short standard model with a blade length of @9". A trial of using longer bayonets ensued and while some liked the longer 13" blade submitted because of its extended reach deemed advantageous in the desert, and its imposing length when connected to the rifle, it reportedly ended up with newly established special operations units (El-Saa'qa), but was declined by the regular Army in favor of the standard FN49 bayonet. El-Saa'qa soon after had moved onto use lighter compact weapons having dropped the FN49. A very small quantity of these bayonets were imported by 'New Helvetia Mercantile' in California, in the 1980s and today they are very difficult to find. Our reproduction in steel with wood grips is identical and comes with steel scabbard. Overall length of bayonet in scabbard is about 20".
