Adopted during the Zulu War, this sword bayonet was formidable and a necessary weapon attachment for the British Martini Henry Carbine or 'Artillery Carbine' of the period. Over 31 inches long, it is truly a 'Sword' with the benefit of a bayonet lug fitting for the Martini Carbine ( Almost as long as the Carbine itself!). A savage weapon with a D' handguard and a rapacious double set of sawteeth' on the spine with a long 'fuller' or blood groove. Blade is 26 inches long. Period markings on one side of the 'ricasso' above the guard. Comes with 26-3/4" leather scabbard with steel mounts. New.
